This standard infobox template has been developed to present information on military and civilian ships and ship classes in a consistent format.
{{Image requested|ships|in=nation}}
– If an article does not have a photo, adding this template to its talk page will add it to Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of ships and also to the category for requested photographs in nation.{{WikiProject Ships|needs-infobox=y}}
– If an article lacks an infobox, adding this parameter to the banner template on the article's talk page will note that fact and also add the article to Category:Ship articles without infoboxes.{{New infobox|type=ship}}
– If an article uses an outdated infobox template or a hardcoded table, adding this template to its talk page will add it to Category:Ship articles needing infobox conversion.Save your fingers and avoid typos.
Linking to a ship or ship class article can involve a lot of extra typing, because ship names are italicized, but ship prefixes and other text in the article title are not. The following templates are shortcuts that will automatically format text when linking to a ship or ship class article.
Note: these templates have tunable output; see individual template documentation for details.
{{navy}}
– for adding the naval ensign and linked navyHatnotes are very brief italicized notes placed at the top of an article. In ship articles, hatnotes are usually used to link to a disambiguation page for other ships of the same name, or to link to individual ship articles in the absence of a disambiguation page. A hatnote link is preferable to a 'See also' link where ship articles are concerned, as ships very frequently share names and hatnotes are highly visible.
{{otherships}}
– for inserting a hatnote that links to other ship articles or ship disambiguation pagesThese templates provide an easy way to navigate between ships of the same class or type. See Category:Ship navigational boxes for a complete listing of all existing navigational templates for ships.
The template {{Non-free historic image}} may be applied to images which fall under Wikipedia's fair-use image policy.
WikiProject Ships has a large collection of graphics of flags, jacks, pennants and other vexillologs, useful in ship articles.
