Finding the right digital game for a friend on Steam can sometimes feel like a guessing game, especially when major seasonal sales arrive. Fortunately, Valve provides a simple way to view your friends' saved titles directly through their community profiles. Learning how to navigate to this feature helps ensure you always surprise your gaming buddies with gifts they actually want.
Navigating to a Friend's Wishlist on Desktop
To inspect a saved games list on the desktop client, open Steam and log into your account. Move your cursor over your profile name at the top navigation bar and select the Friends option. Once your friends list appears, click on your friend's profile picture or username to open their dedicated page.
On their profile page, look toward the right-hand sidebar or the recent activity area to locate the Games section. Clicking on Games will reveal tabs for their owned library, recently played titles, and their personal wishlist. Selecting the Wishlist tab immediately displays all the titles they are currently tracking along with sorting options.
Checking Saved Games via the Steam Mobile App
If you are away from your PC, checking a saved library on your mobile device is equally fast. Launch the official Steam app on your phone and log into your account if prompted. Tap on your profile menu icon at the bottom, then select your Friends list to view your contacts.
Select the desired friend to open their mobile profile view. Scroll down until you find their Games tab, then tap on it to reveal additional options. From there, switch the view to Wishlist to browse through all the games they hope to play.
Understanding Profile Privacy and Wishlist Visibility
Sometimes you might follow these steps only to find that the wishlist button is entirely missing. This usually occurs because your friend has set their account or game details to private. Steam respects user privacy preferences, meaning hidden libraries cannot be viewed by external users.
If their game details are restricted to Friends Only, you must be an accepted friend on Steam to view their list. In cases where a friend has no saved items, the tab may also fail to appear altogether. Communicating with your friend about their privacy settings can help resolve visibility issues easily.
Filtering and Purchasing Games Directly from the List
Once you are viewing a wishlist, Steam provides convenient sorting tools to help you choose the best title. You can sort games by price, discount percentage, release date, or ranking priority set by your friend. This makes it simple to find discounted titles or top-priority games during major sales event periods.
When you settle on a title to buy, click the Add to Cart button located right next to the game entry. Select the option to purchase the game as a gift during the checkout screen. Steam will automatically send the game code directly to your friend's inventory with your personalized message.
